1990 Capri 2250 bayliner Alpha 1 gen 1. Still working on my first boat and like some guidance. From the engine bay I can hear a odd crackling sound and from the lower unit I can hear a knocking noise. No shavings in the oil of the drive. Know the shift cables need to be adjusted "can rotate cw in reverse by hand" and the prop shaft isnt straight. Will be uploading a video shortly.

The clacking sound could be exhaust shutters. The knocking for the drive will be the backlash in the gears. Both are normal. And should disappear when you have the engine under load.

That was my first thought. Then I looked at how much of the trim ram is extended. It's only about a third, so within the 'trim' range.
