Good news is I got the 5.7L rebuilt and installed over the weekend. After a bunch of time reconnecting everything (I didn't take the whole thing apart - took over the task from someone else), I turned the key last night and the engine roared to life. Ran like a sewing machine. AHHHHH, SUCCESS!

However, while installing the lower unit, I noticed a lot of slop in the gimbal housing. Naturally, I am looking to lube everything and could not find any grease fittings on the upper or lower pivots (top and bottom of the housing). The upper bearing appears somewhat rusty, loose, and squeeking. What's the deal? Is there a drillout or something I've missed.

And, one more request for help. Like I said, I didn't start removal and therefore didn't take off the shifter cables from the bracket on the engine. I'm having a heck of a time figuring what goes where. My lower unit book is on loan to family member a couple of states away. Is there any place online that the position and adjustments are shown?
