Engine and boat have only 300 hrs max, went to use this summer and started hard,stalled in gear, <br />no power. Marina said #3 cylinder lost compression<br />from carbon building up and tightening rings in<br />cylinder. $2000.oo bill to fix. They said all 1990<br />force outboards had the same problem. I looked at the cylinder and it is scratched up a little, and<br />the piston looks like it got hot. I'm going to tear it apart and fix myself. Does anyone have any<br />tips about what to do and not to do in reference to replacing other items. The mechanic said they would replace the water pump, thermostat, etc. Also, I am going to have to have the block honed or bored. Anyone know of a reputable machine shop<br />that does this kind of work? I am in upstate NY.<br />Motor is in mint condition otherwise. Thanks for any tips.
