Hello guys I hate for my first post to be a help me post but I'm stunped.... I bought a 9.9 tohatsu to use as a kicker and the guy told me the starter was out and I had to be pull started, so I thought no big deal after going to meet him I found out he was wrapping a rope around the fly wheel because the recoil starter assembly is missing as well.. I orders a starter but I think since I'm missing the recoil assembly that the starter is not in the right place to engage the flywheel.. does anyone know if the starter is supposed to mount on a bracket ? Perhaps maybe on the base of the recoil assembly? The starter had been taken off it wasn't on the motor or I could just replicate what was already present... thanks in advance I'm looking forward to this forum.. Ps I can take pictures If needed

The recoil system is a complete assembly with 3 legs, rest on top of flywheel bolted onto crankcase, has a ratchet system that springs open till engages on to top of flywheel, that's how the engine starts. Will need to buy the whole assy bolts, washers included...

Does the electric starter mount on the recoil start assembly? Both were missing I have tracked down the right starter

Not on the recoil starter, mounts side of flywheel, starter pinion must be aligned with dented flywheel. If flywheel is not deneted impossible to add electric start, besides will need a rectifier to charge the bat, a starter bracket and bolts and a long bat cable. Is it a must count with electric start. That small engine is very smooth to recoil start, won't rip your arm off, strenous pulls are not needed.
