Hi

Need help in determining what is wrong with my motor. Sometimes when I'm driving the boat at high speed and then slow the motor down and then return to a high  running speed the motor loses power. It will continue to run but at a low speed. If I turn off the engine and wait a while and then turn it on again the motor will either run smooth or continue to run slow for a while.

Rebuild Carbs first and then look at new fuel pump! But first check bulb and fuel lines! Replace if nessesary. When it runs slow, shoot some premix in a squirt bottle in the Carb. and see if it speeds up. If so, do as above!

Re: 1990 60HP Evinrude

Thanks Rick!

I also opened the fuel tank last weekend and found and  removed about a hand full of rust that was as fine as sand. Do you think that could be part of my problem too? I have a water separating fuel filter that I have changed out and this weekend I thought I would add an additional inline fuel filter as a precaustion until I change out the tank. What are your thoughts?

mlcatlopez,As soon as you can ,change out fuel tank to polypropolene or fiberglass instead of metal. Once a metal fuel tank begins rusting it's gone.

Thanks ob!

I'm working on itI need to find a 17 gallon tank that will fit my Seasquirt. As it stands, no one has ever heard of a seasquirt. :)

Hi Rick

I haven't removed the gas tank from undernethe the console yet. I'll do that his weekend. Today I found a place in Miami that will fabricate the same gas tank in aluminun for $200.00.

I haven't been able to locate either type but I'll see what I can find on the internet.

Thanks Rick!

My boat was sent to Stuart Florida so that my brother in-law can repair the carburators and remove the gas tank. I'll know exactly what I need by this coming weekend.

mlcatlopez:.. There's a place in Ft. Pierce called Marine Connection Liquidators that has a bunch of plastic and aluminum tanks in all kinds of shape and sizes... (772)-465-6460... (address) 2970, US-1... east side of the street... ;)

Update!

I got my boat back. I had the carburators and water pump rebuilt. The carbs were not as bad as thought, however one of the major problems was a kink in the fuel line that could not be visiably seen. The Seaskirt runs like new. :D
