A generic version of Tiny Tach should work fine. I just ordered one for $22 on Amazon, that has a green backlight, as well as a red backlight if you exceed a certain RPM (red line). There should be a grey wire coming off your rectifier. Connect the tach to that. :)

My generic tachometer arrived today. I was wrong - doesn't connect to the grey wire - you wrap the wire around a spark plug wire, and it senses the spark signal. Short cable means I have to keep the tachometer near the engine...

I have a Bosch tachometer for 4 or 8 cylinder automotive. Connect it to one lead from the charging system stator, which is 8 pole, 4 pulses/rev.. Set the tach to 8 cylinder. It works fine. About $36 at Auto Zone parts store.
