My johnson starts on the first pull with the choke out but quits immediatly. After many starts and fussing with the throttle it finally runs, lower the rpm to a high idle put it in gear and it quits. If you are real quick with the throttle and speed it up it runs great at high speed with no problems at all. Changed both plugs but engine still acts the same. when I pulled the old plugs they appeared to be wet. Thinking about rebuilding the carb. at this point, any one with a sugestion? This engine used on a lake in the past, but has been laid up for a few years.

Try a link and sinc first, Handball. Had the same problem with a for me new egine at the time. Timing, throttle etc out of whack, couldn't idle. If that's OK you have another problem. Good luck

handball, search "awakening a sleeping outboard" it has all you need to bring an engine back to life after a long nap. do this before you toast a good engine.
