The engine has been sitting for a year, but I was told it worked fine previously. When I put the boat in the water to test it out it ran fine, up to about quarter throttle. When I opened it up, It started slipping jult like a clutch in a car. The prop hub is ok.

The fluid in the lower unit is clear (no metal filings)and It makes no "unusual" noises.
The only thing that I really noticed is about a quarter turn of freeplay at the prop, when it is gear and sitting on the trailer.

What do you think?

Is it something repairable or is it time for a new lower unit?

Thanks,

Big Mike

Sounds like your trim is out of adjustment. Causing cavation if you do not know what trim is its the angle of the motor\drive should be easy to adjust.
