So I torn down my 40 hp Merc this morning to see about doing rings, seals and gaskets. When I knocked out the lower seals I missed the direction the top seal sits. I assume by looking at every thing that it is the same orientation as the bottom seal with u side facing down or away from the bearing. I can't find any documentation on this so any help would be appreciated.

Thank you

Note the Mercury service manual isn't super user friendly. If anyone knows of a better alternative I would also appreciate that.

Generally the Seals would be Mirrored, with the Upper Seal having the U side(with Spring) facing Up towards the Bearing. Any Crankcase Pressure would press the Seal Tighter.
