I have a 1990 bayliner with a 2.3l ford engine. It has a omc drive. We took it out one night and it ran perfect for about a half hour, we were at a low idle, put it in gear and it just stopped, tried to start it and it sounds like the battery is almost dead. Waited over night and tried it the next day, it started for a while then died again, same thing like the battery is dead. Does anybody have any ideas of what it could be, or what should I do next.

Welcome aboard torrence: I started a new thread for you. Please take a few moments to review our forum rules (see link below).

Are you getting spark? Have you tested the alternator? Any sign that you're not getting consistent fuel flow (bad fuel pump perhaps)? Those would be my starting points.

Ayuh,.... Welcome Aboard,..... Start with the basics,..... Charge the battery, 'n have it tested,....

Once the motor is turnin' over proper, it takes Fuel, Fire, 'n Compression, All at the right Time,.....

Yes, it has spark, getting gas, and a new battery. It seems almost like the battery is just about dead, like a lot of drag on the starter, or like it is locked in gear but that is not the case. It will start fine, then once it warms up is when it decides to slow down and not start again for a while until it cools, but even after that it does not run very long. I am thinking it is in the engine, like a bearing locking up, but if it was going to lock up, would it just lock up already?

You're not overheating are you? When was the impeller last changed? Alternator been tested?

torrence2, sounds a lot like the symptoms I am having with my 4.3 cobra. Try pulling all the plugs and checking for water or moisture. That's where mine is right now and the water was causing something like a hydrolock and engine would not turn over with starter. Mine is with mechanic right now to figure this one out.
