Looking for some details.
Does anyone klnow the difference bewteen the Yamaha Pro V (150) and a basic Yamaha 150 (late 1980's)???? I see them a lot on freshwater bass boats, is it possibvle they are not intended for salt water use? Is the Pro V series just a hopped up version of the original and if so...what about fuel economy? Or is it possible more "love" went into creating the Pro V motors and they are somehow even more aluable/reliable/fast/and efficient than there regular old cousin.
Any details on the difference would make intresting reading to me...look forward to the talk.
TH

Yes the ProV's are different. I've got an '87 ProV 150. Supposedly they produce approximately 10 - 15hp more than a standard 150. Very similar to the differance between a Mercury standard 150hp and a 150XR6.

The cowlings were different. The gear ratio on the Pro V was 2/1 instead of 1.86/1 on the regular 150. That allowed the Pro V to pull the Pro Series props. The cowling did allow better air flow. The powerheads were the same.
