1989 Yamaha 90hp

Hello all. I’m new to this forum, thank you for your acceptance. I currently have a 1981 16ft Starcraft bowrider in search of an outboard motor. While searching to purchase a used motor, I have come across a 1989 16ft Sylvan bowrider with same year 90hp Yamaha outboard. I’ve also come across a 1988 16ft Sylvan bowrider with same year 70hp Johnson outboard. I’m wondering about the reliability of Starcraft vs Sylvan bowrider boats and older Yamaha and Johnson/Evinrude outboards. Do either of these boat packages sound like a good combo if I were to purchase either of the boat packages and sell my Starcraft? Or am I better off keeping my Starcraft and continue my search for a used outboard motor? If so, what brands and years of outboards have proven to be reliable? Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Outboards and many other products are great when they work.------When they break down is when " quality shines " ----I would rather have an older product that is simple and affordable to repair.----So parts and service availability is a factor.-----If your local shop says " bring it in we can repair that motor " is different than when they say " throw it away , no parts available , nobody fixes those " type answer.----Do the research.
