Friend has a 175 Yamaha and problem is the temprature warning light on the console comes on when the key is turned on and will not go out. Motor is cold. Does anyone know where the temp sensors are located and what color wires are involved. Initial guess is that there may be a defective sensor. Any comments on similar problems appreciated.

1/3 the way down each head is the sensor. Black and pink wires. Disconnect each one and see if the alarm quits.

Re: 1989 Yamaha 175hp Warning Light

Still have the problem where the temp indicator lamp on the console FLASHES continuously while the key is on (cold motor). When the key is first turned on, all indicator lamps light as normal, then all extinguish except the Temp Lamp. Found the temp sensors on the heads, disconected, light still on. Shorted the leads at the sensors, overheat alarm souned (normal). Any suggestions as to what may be the culprit?
