I have been told by the only repair shop that works on Volvo Pentas in the area (which is still 160 miles away) that I need a new Gimbal Bearing. They say you don't have to pull the engine to replace it, which I have read varying reports on that as well. I have read a number of posts and some say that some don't even have Gimbal Bearings but rather internal bearings???. I need to know 1) if I have an actual gimbal bearing? 2) how to find the correct part number so I can order the right part the first time? 3) do I need to pull the engine to replace it? 4) what special tools will be required to replace it? Perhaps I'm not providing enough info on the engine, but the DP-CD is all the engine has on it. I'm assuming it is an '89 as that is the year of the boat. Where can I look to know for sure the year and model?

I am mechanically inclined, so I feel rather comfortable doing this work myself. I can't find any one who can fix it other than the shop 160 miles away and we had a very bad experience with them last summer. I don't want to take my boat there and I don't think they want to work on my boat ever again.

Any help anyone can give would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Kevin
