Hey everyone...This is my first post but I've read many on here...I have a problem with my actual throttle control. Everything starts and idles well, however sometime, not every time, I will be in Neutral and cant go into Forward. I literally have to shift into reverse a couple of times, then it shifts no problem and off we go. It will continue to be fine for the rest of the day. I just had a new intermediate cable installed, all new gaskets and o-rings put into the entire outdrive, changed fuel filter and went through it...Any Ideas what this might be before I throw away another 1000.00 on this boat?

Howdy,

That problem could be the actual throttle quadrant, or in the shift mechanism at the engine.

Disconnect the lower shift cable (red) at the engine (#23 below), operate the cockpit control and see if it's binding.................... (DON'T LOSE THE ADJUSTMENT for the lower shift cable!)

You have a control that is over 30 years old....... something might be worn or broken inside.

Mine was an 87 model. It was the first thing I replaced when I pulled the Cobra and replaced it.....

Thanks Rick, I pulled the cable off and it's not binding up, lever moves freely. I'm assuming it's in the throttle quadrant. I'm just going to replace the whole thing. Any suggestions about buying parts? I live in the "Ocean State", Rhode Island, yet I have to leave the state do buy parts from a dealer. Don't mind driving the 2 hourss from here but there must be some reliable/respectable place on here to get parts delivered.
