1989 Mercury outboard lower unit question

Is there a coupler between the lower unit shift shaft and the upper unit? Something to lock the splines together?

Every Merc that I have seen has a coupler on the upper shift shaft.

The splined connection just slips apart.-----No tools required to disconnect the shift shaft.

Thanks for the responses, I finally found the part I needed. Most of the parts breakdown pics dont show the part
