HELP!!!!!!!!!!!
tilt solenoid went out
merc manual on-board said to turn the manual release valve CLOCKWISE???? the plastic screw head stripped. Talked to !@#$%^&* boat shop, they said manual release valve was the only way to relieve pressure, yeah right, drilled out valve, found another way after the fact, a screw on top of the valve body. Fact is the valve body is dinged now where the valve goes in.
Looking for a hydraulic schematic or info on which part of the valve is for up/down

The manual release valve they were talking about was probably that screw you found. A big flat head about the size of a nickel maybe? But I believe it should have been turned counterclockwise. Is your tilt a 3 ram system?

Thanks BK, yes the screw SHOULD have been turned
COUNTERCLOCKWISE as I found out when I was able to get to the library. Yes it's a three cylinder system, two for trim and one for tilt, the tilt ram does not build enough pressure to rotate the o/b upwards though there is substantial resistance
(pressure) in the opposing direction. The trim cylinders pressurize just great. As it is
I would like to just fill the hole with cement and do without the manual release function, since there is an alternative fluid outlet on the manifold assembly.

I don't see why you can't plug it since you have found another way to bleed it down if the pump fails. I would make sure it seals well so it does not come down on you while under power.

Wellll,,,,,,figuring I had dinged the internal area where the valve resides, I sleeved the valve itself with some heat-shrink normally used for electrical wire, what the hay, it's working, $2.15
instead of $900 for parts+$500 for labor at the shop.
