I have a 1989 sun tracker pontoon boat with the 90hp Johnson that I cannot get to run it'll spin over fine. I have spark. I rebuilt the carbs, fuel pump, and installed a new ignition switch and spark plugs and wires a fuel tank and primer bulb and line. I'm not sure if I'm using right cranking procedure or not as this is my first outboard engine. But I know if I unhook fuel line from the pump it barely pushes any fuel out of the line while I pump it. And I can spray a little fuel in the carbs and it'll act like it wants to start up. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Are you pushing the key in while cranking it over ?------Post the compression numbers.----Does spark jump a gap of 7/16" , yes or no.

I'm not pushing in while cranking I'm pushing in just before cranking for about 5 seconds. I haven't checked compression because I was told the engine needed to be ran for about 10 minutes before checking it. So I will check compression tomorrow. As far as the spark it is jumping a 7/16 gap with a good loud pop and a blue spark

No need to run a motor for 10 minutes to check compression !!-------Try pushing the key in while cranking it over.------Does the electric primer click when you push in the key ?----Have you tried using the red lever on the electric primer ?

I have pushed it in and I'm still not getting fuel. I started checking compression but my battery went dead so after I get it charged back up I'll try again and yeah I moved the lever but I didn't get any change out of it

Your battery and starter motor must be in TOP condition in order for this motor to start.

Yeah the battery is new it's just been sitting awhile and I'm not sure how old the starter is though

Some will argue.----------In my opinion it is easy and costs no money to take the starter apart for testing / inspection.

I'll look into that. The engine sat for about 2 years I was told it ran good before it was parked but you know how that goes

Well I got it to run but the bad news is that I have one cylinder with 0 psi compression and on the opposite side I have another that only has 30 psi. So it looks like I'll be pulling the heads and inspecting the compression issues. Then I'll probably be doing rings on it I'm sure

Some will argue.----Broken rings is very , very common on these motors.----In my opinion every one has or will suffer from that failure mode.

Yeah I'm gonna pull the head today after I get off work and see what I'm working with. I just hope it hasn't ruined the block

Yeah lol I'm hoping just a gasket issue but I ain't holding my breath lol. This is my first 2 stroke engine it's a lot different from car engines that's for sure but they also have a lot on common too. But when I get off today I'll tear it down and check the rings, sleeve, and gasket
