I have a 1989 johnson 70 that will not idle in the water. i cant run it on the hose in the yard all day long with the butterfly valves completely closed. I have cleaned the carbs in an ultrasonic parts cleaner and rebuilt them following the instructions in the johnson service manual. This motor also does not have any idle mixture adjustments. i have checked the reed valves and they all seem to be fine. it is getting plenty of fuel from the pump and i also just rebuilt the vro pump just to make sure. (only using the fuel side of the VRO, mixing 50:1). compression is 130, 125, 130. the motor runs great once you give it a little gas it just will not idle with the motor just in gear. I have also followed the procedure for adjusting the idle correctly. I have also replaced the thermostat because i read that the motor not getting to operating temperature could also cause this. I am 100% stumped at the moment so any help will be appreciated!
