i was out on the lake last week trolling and i noticed a knocking noise in my motor. 1 min later it died. i had a long way back to the ramp so i tried to restart and it would if i choked it but would not stay running. but i got it home and hooked it up to water and tried to start it. i could get it to start by choking it but would die after 5 sec or so. also i noticed no water pumped out during the 5 sec it ran. it seems to have good compression and the motor is in good shape. greased and clean, lower unit rebuilt last year. its oil injected and i think its getting oil. it was running fine until this. is it a fuel problem or more serious?

Have you looked at the plugs? They might have fouled out with long term low speeds.

I don't know what the problem is, but you need to find out before any more starting attempts. Depending on what it is, it could get real nasty real quick.

you say its not pumping any water its either pluged up or water pump need replacing and the clunking sound sounds like not enough oil dont run until you find whats wrong

are you premixing, or using the automatic system. the old systems were known for trouble.

knocking/ no water flow/ wont run?

you need to verify good compression with a gauge. it sounds like its blown up to me.
