Did anyone ever start this motor with a piece of rope?I like to bring a piece of rope onboard in case i'm 5 mile offshore and the starter takes a crap.

Yeah. I do it all the time with an 88 125 and a 1990 90. Take out the plugs and prime the cylinders. Put plugs back in, turn on switch, wrap rope about 2 turns, brace foot on splashwell and give a good yank. Don't have anyone behind you--that rope will snap them good. Also, use a handle on the rope. It really saves your hands. Priming cylinders is easier than trying to hold choke closed but anything that will get gas into the cold engine will work. If it is a warm engine, you only need to pull--no prime, no choke
