Long time reader, first time poster! Having trouble finding a flywheel with the same thickness as my original. Have bought 2 and both are thinner than my original. Mechanic is having low voltage issues and claims both of the flywheels with the more narrow magnet band than the original is the issue...UGH! Anyone ever had this issue? As far as I have found, the flywheel on my boat fits a whole host of models and years but again, none of the ones I have found have the same size magnet as mine.

Post some up close pics of your old and new stuff.
The old ones that the magnet falls out can be re-glued.J

Re: 1989 Force 150 Flywheel Issue - Magnet Dimension

Appreciate the reply. The issue is that the mechanic is saying that the original flywheel magnet is cracked and is not working properly (low voltage). I have looked at a total of 4 flywheels that are supposed to fit this model (1508E9A) and the wall thickness of the magnets are considerably thinner than the original flywheel. The original one is appr 1/4" thick and the other 4 are closer to 3/16" thick. However, the inside diameter of all flywheels involved are measuring the same. In addition, there is only one flywheel shown to have been made and used among the various years of 1989 to 1992 and covers several different horsepower ranges.
So, now wondering if the root problem (low voltage out of stator) is the stator itself and not so much to do with the flywheel but still cannot understand how or why the original flywheel magnet is so much more thicker than all of the other flywheels that are supposed to fit.

If the magnet isin't close enough you might not get the performance.
What's wrong with the one you have?
I have an old one. That I think will work.Just post some pics of yours. The #s on the top I need to see.J
