I am wanting to repair blistering and/or re-paint the cowling, and also touch-up the minor paint chipping on the lower unit of this motor. Any suggestions where to buy or how to match this paint color? I prefer to do this myself. There is NO damage, I just want to improve appearances. I know from experiene that "Emron" is the paint of choice for fibreglass (ie-Corvettes) in the past, but is this true today? Is there one best paint for doing both these applications? Thx in advance for any help !

You can do a fine job with the rattle cans from your local dealer or boating supply place.

Be aware that there are several differnt Johnson/Evinrude white colors.

I've had the best luck with the OEM stuff (dealer).

Jerry, The numbers for your are located on the parts list for your motor. You can take them to an Evinrude dealer or any body shop supply store and get the color matched paint for your motor

DJ - Are the OEM rattle can paints the best in terms of quality or for matching the old GREY/BLUEish paint theme, or both?

Todd - "parts list"? please specify, as I bought the rig used 10 years ago and didn't get any OEM paperwork for anything. I called Ranger with the VIN and they could tell me anything and everything about the boat itself! Should I contact Evinrude for a manual which would contain this info you mention? I have friends in the auto painting biz that could match the color for me, but being I am a "DIY" kinda guy, I'm lookin for the easiest and cheapest way out, within practical reason. The motor still runs like a champ, just tryin to make it look better at the launch ramp. :)

A company called Tempo Products makes cans of spray paint for outboard motors which are exact factory matches. I have used them on a couple of occasions and was generally happy with the results. They range in price from 7.99 to 12.99 depending on where you purchase them.

Jerry, The parts list is in the owners manual. There is a link in this website for purchasing manuals or you can get one thru an Evinrude dealer. I bought the owners and service manuals for about $70 it will pay for itself.

Re: 1989 Evinrude Outboard Paint

JerryJamz2, I just bought three "rattle cans" of the Evinrude factory paint for my '89 XP150 last summer. It seems to be pretty good paint and matches well. If I remember correctly, it was around $7-8 per can at a local dealer. All I had to do is take them my engine model # (E150STLCEM) so they could look up the correct paint number.
