Hey everyone.. I had a 77 40HP evinrude outboard on my boat.. and its seen its last day.. so i picked up this 48 SPL The shop i got it from said they rebuilt it. I got the motor started and everything runs great.. went to turn it off.. and my key switch wouldn't turn it off.. i pulled the fuel line... and it eventually burned out... Any ideas on where i can find a wiring guide or .. how to fix this problem????

Thanks

The key to this problem is that you need to ground out the yellow/black lead that goes to the engine to shut it off. Check your key switch and the engine and boat harness. Look up the details online, because I can't be asked to do it right now. :)

Thanks, but I found a solution ... my old motor had a switch by the key for a choke.. electric choke... when I push that button it turns off the motor as long as the key is in the on position... I don't have a yellow/black wire either... I have a red/violet blue/violet blue/white and white. Those are the 4 to the key switch .. I have a violet/black going to the electric choke switch. .... so I'm not sure how it works... but it works... any ideas on how to fix this in the off season?
