I have no tell tale from the pee hole when motor running. Water pump is about 4 years old, but not many hours on the motor after new pump installed. If I do find the water pump is the culprit do I have to disconnect the shift linkage under the cowling and also should I place the motor in forward or reverse when doing this? If I dont twist the shift rod after I drop the lower unit then I should be alright upon re-assembly? Thank you for your help.

To remove lower the shift rod would need to be disconnected. This is under the bottom carb. Sometimes folks that don't have a swivel socket and an extension in the 1/4 drive size need to remove the starter to gain access. Its either 3/8" or 10mm head on the screw depending on year. I remove and install them in neutral. Yes, if you do not turn the shift shaft you do not need to reset shift rod height.

Is there mud in it from a dirt daubber? They always plug mine up after just a few weeks. Certain motors they like more? Pull the rubber hose off at the conception on the motor and see if it has water there. Or run something up the very end of the hose to dislodge any dirt.

I also had an issue with an intermittent pee stream on muffs, I found out the thermostat and everything was removed causing the issue.
