The tachometer on the dash of my 175 Evinrude stopped working. I checked battery and it seems to be charging ok. The tach needle is below 0 at rest but when the motor is started it comes to 0 but will not register any signal. Where under the hood should I look for a possible wiring problem? Or does anyone have any other suggestions. Thanks

The changes in the needle are as a result of the tach getting power. The signal wire to the tach connects on the engine's wiring terminal block on the starboard side of the powerhead. It is the solid gray wire that connects to the middle screw terminal. I had that wire go open on one of my V6's and had to thread a replacement wire from the engine's terminal block all the way to the dash gauge-solved the problem.
