Hello everyone new to the boat motor world and I have a question about a 1989 120 evinrude. Where would the heat alarm be located I can’t not find one anywhere on my boat or motor but maybe iam overlooking it I have checked harness and motor? Reason iam asking is when taking it out runs great for about ten mins give or take then feels like it falls on its face not sure if it’s overheating?

The sensors are located on each head. Tan wire coming off the sensor.

Test by grounding out the tan wire.

The horn (warning horn) might be no good either. Check in your control box or dash.

Update iam 100% sure it’s not under my dash unless it’s in my speedometer or tac which both don’t work. And I will also say that when I turn my key on there is no alarm what so ever. But can crank the motor. I have traced both brown wires coming from the sensor and lose them shortly after they pass under the fly wheel. I have not had the chance to pull apart my control box yet but I figured since it doesn’t sound off it’s either not there or broken!

Test by turning the key in the run position (not running) and ground that tan wire. If you hear nothing warning horn is dead.

I think you are looking at the wrong wires.-----Brown wires under the flywheel are not part of the overheat warning !!

Ok. When the wire is grounded the horn does sound. And I tested both sides of the motor. The horn location is in the controls.

It does not chirp when I turn the key in the ignition tho?
Also how often does the actual sensors tend to go bad?
