We recently bought our first family boat 1989 bayliner cierra 2455 and in a year or so and we will want bigger, but first, the main issue we have is discovering how to empty the waste tank for the head so we can go camping, completely baffled, is this somehow linked to the bilge, if not how can we empty it please , we have tried to open the waste lid but it starts to push the liquid out via air even at times with the head lever opened and the smell is rancid. thanks for your kind assistance

First, it would be good to understand what type of head unit you have . . . . sounds like you have separate toilet & waste tank, but want to be sure you are not talking about a porta-pottie with an integrated tank.

they are pumpout style. So, you have to go to a pumpout station . . . either at a marina or even an RV place might do. The pumpout apparatus sucks the waste out.

Nothing goes into the bilge . . . at least not supposed to. It sounds like your waste tank is quite full, if it is pumping itself out a bit when you remove the cap.
