Question the mechanical fuel pump on my bayliner looks original. I say this cause it's painted the same gray color as the engine block. I have never changed it and it works fine. My concern is that the bugger is now 25 years old and I'm scared it's gonna go for a dump when ever it feels like it. Should I be concerned of its age? Do they give warnings when they fail besides barfing fuel into the carb? How long do mechanical pumps last? Anyway should I just play it safe and just change it out? Seems silly spending $ if it still works. I just don't know. Thoughts?

Best regards
Stuart

I have an 89 5.8 mine just went out. I am installing a new one today. Don't know if that's normal . But mine finally gave up the ghost.

Ok thanks for the tip. What I will do is try find one and leave it in my tool box in case it dies on a long weekend. At least I will have one kicking around.

Cheers
