Hi everyone, can anyone point me in the direction on where to get steering replacement for a 1989 bass tracker 1600tf? Its for my husbands boat and I want to get it for him for Christmas but have no earthly idea what I’m looking for or doing. Thank you!

Welcome
There are various types, and most need to know what size motor

Single cable (which is probably what's on it now)
Teleflex No feed back system which uses a clutch in the helm and single cable
Hydraulic Sea Star system (really nice, but cost much more)

Then there are helms that will tilt and others that don't

The base tracker is still being made and could be the best place to ask would be a dealer. You don't have to buy from them but they should know what will work

Hi! Sorry, I should’ve added that in the post. He recently had a Suzuki 115 motor put on it.

My wife's hobbies are different than mine and I dare not try to buy something for her that may not be right.

Microsoft Word had a plethora of free programs that are customizable. Last year the wife wanted a new custom made saddle for her horse, so I made a beautiful certificate with a picture of a saddle and where the cost was to be inserted I said "blank check". Of course I went with her with my checkbook when the order was placed, but the certificate under the Christmas tree was a big hit.

Thanks for your not helpful at all response! He also has no idea what to get, so this post is actually to help him as well haha. So, I’m not really sure what this response was meant to do.

The response was meant to let your husband make the appropriate choice, since if he had the boat I assumed he was a boater.

My apologies for trying to help with no other agenda in mind.

Bass trackers are still in business. If you have a Bass Pro or Cabelas in the neighborhood, take the boat there and they will show you what you need. If not, they are on the internet.

Regardless, you have a 25 year old boat so possibly it's a maintenance issue. It could be a simple problem that can be corrected by some lube in the proper place. A marine mechanic may be an alternate option first.

If the steering issue is simply because he installed a new motor, then we probably cannot help you. You need a marine dealer who can see the issue in person to assist

The current steering on it is the original that has been on it. So single cable.
There are a half dozen styles of helms for cable steering

You will need to get under the dash and at a minimum take some pictures. Then look at the end of the cable for the cable part number and length which is hot stamped every foot
