Just trying to verify the weight of a 1989/90 Astro Quickfire 18FS. There isn't any specs on the plate as to weight, only max engine and passengers. According to 2 differant sources, on of them Iboats, the weight of this boat is 1300 lbs. which does not include passengers, aftermarket boating accessories, or fuel; it does not state if it is 1300 lbs. with or without engine. Since the engine manual lists the weight of the 150HP Mercury Black Max at approximately 404 lbs., can I figure the boat will weigh in a little over 900 lbs. without the engine? As always, thanks to all the help.

Is that the fish ski model? If so I bet the dry weight of the hull is around 1600lbs without the motor.

The numbers on the plate are for loading the boat and don't refer to its weight.

Thanks for the feedback Dan; Yes it is the fish and ski, and no offense meant, but I could use more than just a guess, LOL. Winter project is to replace the rotten deck and stringers, etc., I plan on seperating the upper from the lower and do the job right. Figure it is cheaper than buying a new boat as the engine and everything else is in great shape. I will need some additional muscle to lift the upper part off and was just trying to get an idea if I would be dealing with 500 lbs. or whatever. I assume the upper will weigh less than the lower hull. Thanks again Dan,

Dan

Dan,

My guess is more of a educated guess based on the weight of more current 18' bass boat based fish and skis. My '04 Nitro 188 Sport fish and ski dry weight was 1675lbs. I would think that four guys could handle it's top cap fairly easy.

1300 pounds sounds in the ballpark for the hull without an engine. Also, you gotta' realize that when manufacturers build a bass boat, for instance, they don't know what kind or size of engine is going to be put on it by the dealer that sells the boat so they can't possibly list a combined weight in the specs.

And yes, 4 healthy guys ought to be able to handle the cap. What I've done, though, is to use 4 come-alongs hanging from the rafters in my garage and lift the cap with those. Don't know if that's an option for you or not, but it's pretty easy that way.

the weight listed will be without engine batteries fuel trolling motor or anything else added to the boat.

the weight listed is OFTEN low so the guess above is likely a good one... the ONLY way to get better than a guess is to take it to a scale.... yes 4 guys should be able to handle the cap BUT it will be awkward and fragile... 2 extra people to help out and to be available to unhook whatever was missed would be a good idea... many folks use ropes and eyebolts into the trusses of the garage to simply suspend the cap and move the boat away
