Hi everyone,
I am needing some help with my 1989 85 hp force outboard. It is mounted on a 1989 17 ft bayliner capri. I inherited this boat from my parents but it sat for many many years, before i got it. The engine will start and run fine while cold. But after awhile (10 or so minutes)of running 3/4 wot or more is when the problem starts. when I back off to idle she runs like she is brand new. then if I do a slow acceleration to get the boat on plane it stalls and dies. It will immeadiatly restart and run great at idle. The only way to get her going is to floor it to wot then back off to the desired speed. This engine started doing this about a year or so after my folks bought it, so mid 1990. we have spent many dollars on this engine. but no techs here will touch a force or bayliner. I have already decarboned the engine, fresh gas and oil, new plugs, new packs and coils and stator. Any suggestions would be great.

mike

I would start with rebuilding the fuel pump. This is a simple task and can be done for about 10 dollars. It may be your carb needs work but it sounds like a torn diaphram in the fuel filter. Also check all fuel lines and fittings for an air leak. Would not hurt to replace all the fuel lines cause it is cheap. Also pull your spark plugs and look at the tips. What you dont want to see is one of them clean. They should have a slight amount of black oily residue on them

Good luck
