I just bought a1989 evinrude tracker pro. I understand that the tracker pro is irrelevant as this motor under the cowling is just a 70 hp evinrude. It is getting water in the lower cylinder. Now from my slight knowledge I have come to the conclusion that this could be a head gasket, or and exhaust gasket. I was wondering how close my diagnosis was. Also i was wondering where i could find information on how to perform this repair. Thanks in advance for all the help.

A compression check would help narrow down your diagnosis. Look on eBay for an OEM shop manual for your motor. It will walk you through any repairs you need to make and most likely won't cost you over $30 shipped to your door.

Agree with above. Check the cyl head gasket first after compression check.

I in fact just got my shop manual it covers 48-235 hp- 1973-1990. It cost me 53.00 shipped to my door.
