Hello Everyone,

I have 1989 50HP Johnson 2 Stroke. I started the engine and it ran for 1 minute and white smoke came out and suddently it died out. I think there is water in my fuel line but not sure. I have tried the following already.

Replace with Fresh Fuel
Replace Spark plugs
Spray wd40 and starter fluid in carburetor
Crank motor starter spin very fast but motor does not turn over.

Can someone help me correcting this problem? What else can I try? I really appreciated.

Thank you in advance!

Check your basics; compression, spark, fuel. Get yourself a spark tester and check that first. If it didn't at least cough with starter fluid, then you are probably not getting spark. By the way, don't use starter fluid on 2 stroke motors. They need the oil in the mixed gasoline for lubrication. You risk engine damage if there is no oil in the fuel.

Check JB's post "Outboard wont start" in the Engine FAQ's. Pretty step by step process to eliminate factors.

My engine is not getting fuel. As I applied pressure to the primer bulbs, I saw fuel leaking out on the top of one of the part on the engine. I don't know what this part call (I think it a fuel pump). This part has fuel line that connected to the carburetor. Can I bypass this to make the motor run temporarily or do i need to replace the part in order to make the engine run. What can I do? Thank you for your help!
