1988 Yamaha WaveRunner 500

[1988 Yamaha waverunner500]

I just bought a 88 wave runner it starts up great but as soon as you pull on the throttle to go it just puts and has no balls what so ever what could be the problem?

I have a 92. Do you have a temperature sensor on it? Mine went into limp mode when sensor went bad.
