1988 Yamaha 90

I am looking at an Aquasport 170 with an 88 Yammy 90hp. This is my first boat (for me and my 2 boys). I did a visual inspection. I know nothing about outboards. What should the compression readings being on this motor (owner says hours are 300-400 hrs). What other problem areas should I be looking for? Owner said seals on trim tilt are leaking (showed me) and he has to refill fluid with a turkeybaster every 6-8 weeks. Started up ok, but sounded a bit rough (and a moderate amount of exhaust). I have not done a sea trial yet, and wonder if I should pursue. Thanks

If you like it why not? Be sure you have an outboard mechanic check the motor in addition to a water test. It will be money well spent.
