I have been experiencing problems where the rev-limiter has been kicking in. I was under the impression that I've been overheating. However, I'm not seeing any warning arrows at the tach. (The warning buzzer is all rusted up and will not work so I can't go by that). The heads are cool enough to hold hands on for a few seconds. I have checked and disconnected the thermo-switches and the thermo-sensor and I still have the problem.

Now as far as I know, the only things that will cause the rev-limiter to kick in are high engine temp and low oil. If the problem still happens when all of the temperature related sensors are disconnected, then I would think that it must be an oil sensor. However, oil levels are all OK and the arrow is over the green at the tach.

* Assuming that the computer and oil control module have not crapped out and all sensors are working properly, is it possible for low battery voltage or low alternator output to cause something like this?

The engine seems to be cranking a bit slower than usual. And the problem doesn't occur on my initial run out to the fishing grounds (at high rpm's). It happens after I shut down and drift for a while (with electronics on). Then when I go to make a move or two, the rev-limiter kicks in.

I think I need to get those batteries fully charged before I go any further.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.
