I purchased an old Larson 1985 17.5 or so ft. boat for the oudrive/engine. Engine has problems, core plug popped out and an exhaust manifold had a leak from a possible crack. However, this is another story, im using a newly rebuild Chevy 4.3 block with marine components and parts of the original Mercruiser to build one working engine. As for the trailer, it is a Shoreland'r with the rollers. My mechanic said that this trailer is not so good in Arizona, since all the lakes here have nice ramps, which eliminates the need for the rollers, and the beaten up roads combined with the rollers might damage the hull. I changed the tires on the trailer and fixed the lights. Painted the trailer, and cleaned up the rusty spots from all over the place. cleaned up the bearings, all of them were spinning fine to my surprise, and put new bearing buddies. the trailer has a brake actuator, but the brake fluid line is broken in at least one place. my mechanic said not to worry about brake surge at all.
The trailer is set for 17 1/2 ft boat, but the winch and the lower support could be moved at least 4-6 feet forward up the tongue, which will allow the trailer to carry 21-22ft boats. my question is, is it worth putting more money into the repair of this trailer, Ill try to sell the trailer with a free stripped boat hull, so if I should just sell it as it is, or fix it completely? thank you
