1988 searay 100hp mercury

i just bought this boat and i am new at this but the boat has set up for 8 to 10 months the boat will start but only for a few seconds and then die what could be the problem. its a 1988 searay with 100hp searay ( mercury ) motor

It sounds like it's starting on the fuel in the primer and the carbs a dirty so it won't stay running

I agree - that sounds like what it is. You'll probably find crud in the jets & passages.

There is an article in the Outboard FAQ section about carb servicing - would be a good place to start.

Post any questions as plenty of folks here have done this job often and would be happy to help.

Check your fuel filter for crud as a starting point. If that's clean, run a pressure test on your pump. If that's ok then I would look at the carb.
