I have a 88 model 70 h.p. nissan. I sold the boat/motor to a fellow and to make a long story short I ended up with the boat back. It ran fine when I had it, but he unhooked all wiring and controls in an effort to revamp the boat. (boat has top mount controls with key switch seperate from controls. Needless to say the motor no longer runs, it isn't firing. I don't know if it's something he did or a part just gone bad. The fuse on top of the engine near the flywheel isn't smoked if that's worth anything. Question is could it be coil/powerpack? or something else. If so is there anyway to test these parts. There is no dealer in the area, and the mechanics I could take it too, would be trial and error. It's a good little motor, but I don't want to spend more than it's worth trying to fix it. Any help appreciated.

Otis, so all the wires have been hooked up again? Does it have a safety kill switch lanyard? Is it hooked back up correctly, and is the lanyard installed?

I have hooked up all the wires, that key switch if I remember correctly (it's been a while since i've fooled with it) has 4-6 wires. I had a diagram at one time and have lost it. I guess that would be a good starting point. The motor cranks fine and power t&t works, but no fire. Would it be possible to smoke some electrical component if it was not wired properly. The boat to my knowledge does not have a kill switch.

It's the CD module(square black box)....99.99% of the time.

I have ordered a service manual for this engine and the correct igntion switch (old one was bad), if at this point I know it is wired properly is there anyway to check the cd module. I'm assuming this is the black box with the plug wires coming out of it, or is it the smaller square black thing on the same side in front of the part just mentioned. Either way is there a method of testing before purchase, and if not any advice on a good deal on parts. Sorry to be so vague, but obviously i'm not a mechanic.

The service manual will have the test procedure in it.
