PLEASE EXPLAIN. I own a 1988 Mercury 90hp outboard motor with power trim and tilt. Whenever I push the control switch to move the motor up or down it moves slowly at first, but then once I run it through a few cycles of up and down it begins to move normally. If I let it sit for awhile again I have to go through the exact same procedure again to get it to move normally again. Can someone please explain what is causing this? Once in awhile it wont move at all unless I hold the switch up or down and sometimes I have to hold the switch on and tap the motor with a soft blow hammer to get it to move. Could the brushes be sticking? Also, how hard is it to get the power trim and tilt motor out to replace the brush card? I dont want to remove the entire outboard to do so.
