1988 Merc outdrive?

Wonder if anyone knows what series out drive a 1988 24FT Celebrity with a 7.1L engine has?
Owner says he is pretty sure it needs a new gimble bearing as he is hearing a ticking sound from that area and he had a mechanic look at it and the mechanic said it is probably the bearing.
Just trying to gather some info before i go look at it in the morning.

Guessing you meant to say 7.4L

In late 1988 Merc just started to come out with the Bravo stern drive but they did use the Alpha drives on some of the big blocks as well in that time frame.

Looking at the parts diagram they have it more listed as, 454 MAG. ALPHA GM 454 V-8 1986-1988 and 454 MAG. BRAVO GM 454 V-8 1988-1992 < which some may call them a 7.4L. also they had 7.4L BRAVO GM 454 V-8 1988-1991.

Me to! Yes meant 7.4L:facepalm:
If it is solid and runs decent ill be bringing it home. Been sitting covered in a barn for 2 years as the owner moved in a different direction and bought a house boat.
If i do buy it watch for a wright up with pics in general boating later today and more questions here!
