I recently purchased an 18' deep V with this motor for power and I noticed the leads off the alarm are snipped. I tried to locate them under the dash but with no luck. Any ideas where to start.

Thanks

Are the leads snipped at the engine? Is the oil to the VRO still hooked up or are you premixing.

If you premix, someone has discontiued use of the oil side to the VRO and has snipped the alarm wires at the engine from the pump.

What colors are the wires..black, gray and tan?

It is likely the last owner may have snipped them because he was getting an alarm either from the engine or the horn went bad and he didn't know what to do with it.

BEFORE you use the engine, you need to find out why the wires are snipped. Is the alarm horn attached to the wire harness under the dash? Sounds like it is.

The horn module should have a black which goes to ground, a purple wire for power and one connection for the two snipped wires. These are the alarm wires from the engine.

Can you reattach them and see what the horn does?

I crawled under the dash again today and untucked all the new wiring to look for the feed from the harness. No luck all I found was a white with a red stripe and a blue wire probably for a trim gauge I was wandering if I can make a harnes from the motor? I tested the horn off a spare battery and it does sound.

Thanks for your help

You really shouldn't have to DVN. The wires your looking for from the engine sensors are a tan color. Bet if you took a look along the wire harness, you'd find them.

The horn under the dash should have a purple wire from the keyswitch A terminal for the +12V and the tan wire which goes to the motor's alarm sensors on the - terminal. Only the later model horns had an addtional black ground wire.

most likely the oil tank level sensor got flakey and send wierd signals to the horn, and someone cut the wire to shut it up, instead of finding out what the problem was.

With that year of motor was the alarm in the control if the key is out of the back of the controls. and if I take the tan sensor wire and ground it on the block should I get an alarm, or can I take the oil resevoir and tip it so it will sense low oil. Also is there a sequence of tests this year of motor does before start up.
