Bought a used boat for a winter project. 1988 17' javelin bass boat. I like it and I am very excited about it. I have some issues though. I am having some problems figuring out some of the plumbing/drainage. there is a forward and aft floor drain, but the forward doesn't seem to drain very well. The front livewell looks like it drains into the floor up front but I don't want to fill & drain it if the floor drain is clogged. The transom has 3 drains.: center is bilge. port seems to be rear floor/rear livewell. I wondering where & how I could get any literature on the boat, so that maybe I could figure it out. Any recomondations would be appreciated. The title only calls it a 1988 Javelin. No model.

usually you have 3 thru hull fittings on the transom. center transom drain for bilge, outlet for livewells, and inlet for livewell pump.

T'sdad.
Thanks for the reply. There are actually 5 through transome holes. (2) are intakes for the livewells. then there are 3 on the very bottom of transome. Center hole has plug. the two other have some type of rubber insert & that is where I have no clue. do they only allow water to exit & not enter?

Sounds like livewell drains.
Take a water hose and put some water into each livewell and see where it comes out.
Also, does your boat have the open and shut control valves for the livewells?

SBN.
No there are no open & close valves. That is another ? I have. When I dumped it in to check it out, I flipped on the rear live well & it started to fill, but would only fill about 1/3 of the way. The water would just drain out the drain in the bottom. There is also no fill/intake hoses for the two side rear live wells. when I tried the hose to fill & follow the water drain, these two side boxes drained into the bilge beloww the battery trays. Is this normal? I don't know if & how many mods. were made to boat over the years, but I would like to get it back as close as possible to stock. Or at least make it ready to fish some club T's. THANK YOU.

You have 2 livewells.
Are both in rear or do you have one in each end, bow and stearn?
The one in the rear will be a cooler.
You should have a pump for each livewell unless one is a baitwell and it will not have one.
The reason that the one only fills so far is that the weight of the water is pushing it out the drain faster than the pump can put it in it.
You need to plug them drains up so the water will stay in and when you get so much water in it, it will drain from an overflow to the side of the boat.

OK, That makes sense. The front, & rear middle boxes both have fillers, drains & overflows. The 2 rear side boxes only have drains. So I guess they are coolers only? I will get some plugs to use the livewells. Have you ever seen/heard of cutting in the coolers to make 1 large box out of the 3 in the rear?

No, but I guess it could be done.
Yes, the ones in the rear on the side/s will be coolers/baitwells.
