Greetings
Is there a tutorial as to how to check and/or adjust throttle cables I.e. travel for instance?
thanks

The throttle cable.
Shouldn't be any adjustment.
Just make sure it's in the right hole on the lever.

When hooking it up, there needs to be some tension as you slip the
end over the ball.
Depending on the connector, there's 3 kinds.
One is about an inch or so long Shift cable only
#2 is about 3" and is spring loaded
#3 is 3 " and is straight with just the connector on the end.

#2/3 both need tension when slipping over the ball.

Thanks Jerryjerry05
so the shift rod; how far it’s screwed in or out has nothing to do with throttle cable travel distance and advance? I apologize if it’s a silly question in advance..
the reason I’m asking is that I was running 1988 force 125hp head with a 1990 120hp lower unit but I fixed the skeg on the 1988 125hp lower unit which I just put on and all seems “ok” but lags a bit at WOT. During the swap of the lower units and dry testing the throttle advance; I noticed that I needed to unscrew the shift rod a bit to make sure the lower properly engages Forward/Reverse/neutral etc. but after running around a bit it seemed to run slower than the 120 hp lower.

The reason it runs slower could be a difference in the gear ratio.
There were three different ratios for the LU (85, 90, 120 and 125Hp). All the LU for these engine fit on the midlegs.
1,73:1, 1,93:1 and 2:1.

You didn't say anything about the shift rod???
The newer gear boxes and the shift rod.
The manual says screw it till it bottoms then
back out 4 turns. The newer gear boxes(not sure of the years)
are all the same ratio and use the same gears

The older before 93/4 it just gets screwed in
and back out so the pin lines up.

Thanks guys
nordin-I was aware of gear ratio this Is why I got the original skeg and lower fixed and remarried with the original head but now it’s a bit slower yet smoother and calmer. I should’ve added that the prop pitch on it is a 17 as the one on the 120 hp lower is the standard 13.
jerry-I apologize for not mentioning the shift rod. And I know about the “all the way in then back out to line up”, but my issue seems to be that for lack of a better way to explain; I basically run out of throttle room at the helm; pedal to the metal but I’m just at 4600rpm and 33mph. Should be running at at least 5200-5500 to my limited knowledge

A 15 pitch prop would probably bring you int the 5200 range. Can you try the 13 pitch that was on the other lower? It may over-rev but might let you see that your getting full WOT.

Try taking the cover off and throttle up by hand??
If that works then the linkage needs adjusting.

I tried swapping props but the 13 doesn’t fit On the 125 lower and I have a feeling the linkage is slightly off
