I recently came across a 1988 evinrude 48 so i put it on the back of my boat installed everything, everything worked fine. I went to move it out of my barn and when i went to lift the motor up so i could move it the motor didn't want to go up. It's like that shock thing won't let the motor come up. I've never had an evinrude, i've always had mercury and never had that problem. Now i can't move my boat because the motor is really low to the ground. I don't know if i have the shock thing set up right or what. Any help would be great.

Try moving the lever on the stbd side of the transom bracket and see what happens. If it won't tilt up you'll have to remove the very lower pin in the tilt bracket to get it up and then troubleshoot it.

Yeah it ended up just being seized up. I found another one at a boat yard and the guy just gave it to me, it ended up being good so problem solved. Thanks for the help though.
