i bought a boat that has the evinrude 48 spl on it. noticed the lower case looked like it had a little oozz of oil coming out underneith the prop. didnt look like it was from engine exhaust, was kinda grey in color. and somewhat thicker. but anyway i figured it was coming out the seal infront of the prop. so we pulled bottom plug out of lower unit and let some oil out looked yellow??? not sure what consistancey oil is. if its the same color as motor oil or most gear lube oil it probly had some water in it. so im thinking i need to replace that seal. how is this done. i took prop off and looked at it, looks like you take out 2 bolts and use some kind of pull and screw in 2 long bolts into threaded holes and pull out housing that seal is in and replace seal and put back in?? if this is how you do this, do you need a gasket infront of seal housing? or can a guy just pull on seal someway (needle nose pilers?) and pop one back in without removing that stuff. thanks for your help, new to the boat motor mechanics.

thanks for the picture diagram.. how does one pull this out? just seemes like it just pulls out with a puller but in diagram it looks like there are snap rings on inside of bearing assembly?? not sure if that holds it in or not? Thanks
