1988 Bayliner Cobra Gauges

Ok, I kinda like the 80's style gauges that are original to my 1988 Bayliner Cobra. However, the tach has a mind of its own. Boat is on the trailer in the yard, turn the key on (no cranking), and the tach slowly starts moving up. Tap it and it may go down, but starts moving up again. Does anybody know of a source where they rebuild/rework these things? The boat has an outboard, and I do not have a temperature gauge. Supposed to be a buzzer, right? Anyway of inspecting/testing the buzzer?

Not knowing what outboard you have it is a little difficult to outline test procedures for the alarm system. Normally, on older outboards you get a short beep when you turn the key on. The alarm can have a number of signals from a prolonged steady beep indicating an overheat condition, to a series of shorter beeps at verious intervals. Those are typically related to oil injection system failures.

Check all the connections to the tach, including under the cowl.

If the tach proves to be bad, check with Great Lakes Skipper for a replacement. Note: the one currently shown is for an I/O only and won't work with your (presumably, Force) outboard. If you don't have a Force, I don't believe you will be able to get a "Star Wars" tach to work with it. But give GLS a call.

Motor is a Force 125 outboard. I've only had the boat in the water once, but I didn't hear any beeps or buzzers.

There is an orange wire running from the sensor on the cylinder head to the terminal block. With the ignition on, ground that terminal and the warning buzzer in the console should buzz.
