1988 Bayliner Bass Trophy boat won't plane with two people in the boat. It does fine with one. I just put a 50 HP Evinrude on it. Should I add the hydrofoils from the old Force motor?

And what length be this boat? I suspect that your hull is waterlogged big time.

I would assume it's at least a 16'-17' boat? If so, 50 HP is a little weak to be pushing something that size. Also check loading (is everything in the rear of the boat), weight of gear/people, water issues, engine tuning, etc.

or maybe you could just step down a few inches in pitch and go to a 4 blade prop

It's a 15' bayliner bass trophy. Everything is in the back.... it shouldn't be water logged, it hasn't been in water in a couple of years till today. I will try to move some stuff to the front and put on the hydrofoils, then try that.

Out of the water for two years in a garage is one thing, out of the water uncovered under a tree is something else.

Before you buy hydrofoils for it, I would suggest you analyze a bit more. I had a 15' that was rated to 100hp and I ran it underpowered on a 50hp short shaft for a while (while looking for another OB). With 2 adults on board, the boat would not plane. With one adult on board, the boat would plane.

Chances are foils aren't going to make enough of a dent in things to put your boat on plane.

What HP are you rated for on your boat? And did the boat plane with the 50HP before it sat for 2 years?

I have a 99 alumacraft magnum deep V walleye rig that has a 40hp 4 stroke on it which is way underpowered for the hull. I have a ton of gear in it and couldn't get on plane with 2 people in the boat either. I messed around with motor height a few times and found that helped out quite a bit but still wasn't very good. I put on a 6" set back manual jack plate and that has helped big time. I can now run 2-3 full grown men with a tournament load worth of gear and still plane out and hit 25-27mph. It can take a bit to get up on plane but once it does, it goes pretty good. I also found that moving the weight around to different storage areas until I found a sweet spot helped alot to before putting the jack plate on.

I am having the same problem, the boat just doesnt move or plane. Also this last trip it started buzzing under the dash and it with full throttle was barely even revving the motor. It always requires that I turn the key and quickly jam the throttle just to start the darn thing???

It's best to start your own thread. Resurrecting old threads is a big no-no. More than likely this thread will get closed.....
