I have a 1988 Mariner 9.9 MH serial 0B237140

98% sure bad ignition coil. Won't turn over. Get spark on pull using right coil, nothing from left. using same wire and same plug.

Problem: every parts site is trying to give me a different part. These coils have a bolt through them into the block, see attached and also clearly visible in the parts diagram

The parts I find online everywhere do not look like this (crowley), even though they guarantee fitment for this engine. There is a sliding cover and no through-hole. See 3rd pic

I went to the local marine shop and the ladies at the parts counter sympathized but had no idea.

So what am I missing here, if anything?

Is anyone parting one of these out? Can't find any online. Pretty common engines

You need the kit with round ferrite. remove rubber cover, remove coil existing ferrite and replace with round one in kit and reuse old grounding strap

thanks, interesting. The one they got in at the parts counter had no way to remove anything where the ferrite should be, it looked like solid epoxy or something. Or maybe I missed it. I should have talked to a mechanic.

I got one coming from amazon, supposed to be compatible. Will update

I'm in NH
